簡介：

       熱愛棒球的羅斯福總統曾說“棒球比賽最有趣的就是8:7的時候”。
位于東京郊外的中堅精密儀器生産商青島制造所每周按慣例舉行一次員工大會，並在會議上對業績以及預測進行報告。這一日的員工大會上，氣氛異常緊張。神情嚴峻的社長細川充（唐澤壽明）面前，員工們不停地怒吼。細川就任社長後不久，市場就因爲金融形勢不好非常不景氣，青島制造所也未能幸免，開始遭受余波的沖擊。不僅被重要客戶提出會讓制造所遭受10億日元以上損失的降價條件，還被威脅說若不答應，就轉和競爭公司五輪電器合作。員工們因此在細川面前爭執不休。在員工的爭執中，專務笹井小太郎（江口洋介）向細川征求意見，細川卻突然說要廢除棒球部，令衆員工啞然。細川報告說主要往來銀行也許會暫停下一季的融資，而廢部是向銀行展示縮減開支，重振公司姿態的一步。每年耗費3億日元進行管理維護的青島制造所棒球部曾是社會人棒球的名門叱咤風雲，但由于公司業績低迷，已大不如前。現在不僅沒能發揮宣傳公司的作用反而成了累贅。部分員工認爲細川的決策是一名經營者該有的判斷，表示支持。但笹井依舊再次向細川確認真的要廢部嗎。因爲棒球部是公司的創立人現任會長青島毅（山崎努）創立的，已經是公司的傳統部門了。決心廢部的細川前往說服青島。同時，細川還面臨著來自大客戶可能導致一年70億日元損失的嚴峻生産調整要求。
