Svqj@@_f bbe$6x wi Since their inception, High Places have created a signature
mi]bS
sound out of using bass-heavy yet crisp beats, lilting vocal
kVeR{i<*( melodies and syncopated rhythmic lines performed on folk
jRGslak; percussion instruments, guitar duets turned into treated
XV %DhR= samples, and percussive lines created from the manipulation of
|9'`;4W household objects. The songwriting is expansive and fluid, all
eg Xbe)ld the while managing to be concise. High Places gravitate toward
e !2SO*O the organic over the electronic, and that natural aesthetic
orON)Sks adds warmth and intimacy to the recordings.
qSA]61U& u/_TR;u=q High Places' self-titled debut was recorded by the band's Rob
"\`>Ll Barber and Mary Pearson in their apartment in Brooklyn's Fort
:f_fp(T Greene neighborhood. They employed a wide variety of
xmXuBp:M(R instruments to make this album, ranging from the more
w_ONy9 traditional: 12 string guitar, banjo, shakers and rattles,
19j"Zxdg Y bass, bells and Kalimba; to the inventive: plastic bags,
xm$-:N0q mixing bowls, wood blocks and other common household objects.
9Rd&Jq^ The album has a contemplative and organic lyrical tone
{'@`:p&3r emphasized by the themes of goodness manifested in nature,
a2%xW_e hardship and wonder as necessities to human existence and
M)6iYA%$ growth. Additionally, the idea of maturation and development
*'to#_n&W
is further accented through the recurring mention of trees and

their extending, enveloping braches.
