,H|V\\ Iz ,C!c Since their inception, High Places have created a signature
\oaO7w,:" sound out of using bass-heavy yet crisp beats, lilting vocal
jPFA\$To melodies and syncopated rhythmic lines performed on folk
HtXzMSGo7 percussion instruments, guitar duets turned into treated
$cYh X^YG. samples, and percussive lines created from the manipulation of
:V >Z|?[*H household objects. The songwriting is expansive and fluid, all
Q.!D2RZc the while managing to be concise. High Places gravitate toward
f>Ij:b`Z2 the organic over the electronic, and that natural aesthetic
X)'uTf0 adds warmth and intimacy to the recordings.
C7nLa@ i5rAb<q` High Places' self-titled debut was recorded by the band's Rob
g4U%(3,>D Barber and Mary Pearson in their apartment in Brooklyn's Fort
zHyM@*Gf( Greene neighborhood. They employed a wide variety of
-`A6K!W&~p instruments to make this album, ranging from the more
WJl&Vyl2FL traditional: 12 string guitar, banjo, shakers and rattles,
1YQ|KJ*K bass, bells and Kalimba; to the inventive: plastic bags,
38rC;
6 mixing bowls, wood blocks and other common household objects.

The album has a contemplative and organic lyrical tone
':J[KWuV emphasized by the themes of goodness manifested in nature,
g"F vD_ hardship and wonder as necessities to human existence and
QKe=/; growth. Additionally, the idea of maturation and development
hg |DpP is further accented through the recurring mention of trees and
rry 33 their extending, enveloping braches.
